Tragic Update on UPS Accident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The tally of victims resulting from the transport jet that burst into flames and went down has now climbed to 13, according to official announcements.

Official's Remarks

While en route to the Teamsters’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft accident,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the families, companions and co-workers of all who were killed in this recent disaster. We will overcome this as one.”

Victims Confirmed

A release from UPS identified the pilots on board the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts go out to each UPSer who has been touched and all in our Louisville region – assisting you and guaranteeing you receive the support and resources you need is our focus,” the organization’s statement stated.

Investigation Details

Federal investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s wing ignited and an engine fell off just after takeoff from the airfield, causing the jet to fall and explode into a fireball.

The safety agency has said it is probing the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in the state for repairs a period before the incident.

Aviation records revealed the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was present in that city,” remarked an official on later, not giving a specific period. “We will review all elements of maintenance that was done, from the repair time, all the way to the date of the trip.”

Retrieval of Vital Items

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were retrieved, and the power plant was discovered on the airfield.

The units – called flight recorders – were designed to endure accident forces and severe fire from blazes, and they looked to be intact when located among the remains. Investigators intend to reviewing information from the recorders.

Jet’s last flight details displayed an altitude of 475 feet and a rate of that speed prior to the accident.

Service Background

Based on aviation authority files from 18 September, a fissure on a component in the tank area needed fixes.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which said it offers airframe maintenance for UPS’s aircraft and runs a service location in Texas, chose not to provide remarks, but said it would assist completely when relevant authorities approached it.

Activities Continue

Meanwhile, the facility operations resumed Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or night sort operation, official a representative said. Each of the three landing strips at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the company’s biggest. The facility engages more than 20,000 people in the locality, processes 300 trips daily and processes in excess of 400,000 items per hour.

Public Response

A memorial was held on the evening of 6 November by the regional labor union, which supports workers at the aviation hub, the firm’s largest freight center.

The union chapter, which represents staff, started the gathering with a period of reflection at that time, the rough moment of the incident previously.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the leader addressed the group of two hundred. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to any one of those who we have lost.”
