19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized the Russian player won his first championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and finally separating with former coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a title is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
